Library Foundation

logoThe Cornwall Public Library Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was officially debuted at a special event held at the home of Senator & Mrs. William Larkin on Sunday, April 22. The Foundation’s development came about as a result of many months of research, discussion, meetings and planning — initially on the part of the library’s board of trustees who began considering this strategic initiative — then by a dedicated group of volunteer community leaders who now comprise the Foundation’s inaugural board of directors.

The Mission of the Foundation reads: “The Cornwall Public Library Foundation supports the long-range goals of Cornwall Public Library and promotes a greater awareness of the Library as a valuable asset. This mission is accomplished through fundraising, seeking major gifts, endowments, grants and bequests.”

Cornwall Public Library Foundation officers are: President, Anna Morabito Tilley; Vice President, Maryanne O’Dell; Secretary, Lucinda Poindexter, Treasurer: William Fogarty. Also serving on the Foundation board are: Kevin Brennan, Moacyr Calhelha, Patricia McGuirk Larkin, and Warren Mumford. Ex-officio members of the board are: Joseph Barth, president, Library Board of Trustees; Jane Harkinson, President, FRIENDS of Cornwall Library; and Karen LaRocca-Fels, Library Director. The Foundation initiative has been assisted by Library staff member, Beth Texter, and Library Treasurer, Karen Staples, CPA, who serves as a professional consultant.

One of the Foundation fundraising goals this year will be to assist the Library in expanding technology services for patrons. “We are working closely with the Library’s board of trustees to best determine the Library’s needs and our corresponding fundraising strategies,” said Anna Morabito Tilley, Foundation president.“ We will maintain strong lines of communication between the Library board, Friends’ board and Foundation board, working together toward common goals. Our mutual sights are set on continuing to provide the Library’s patrons with exemplary programs and services that respond to their needs and requests.”
